Black Glue Lesson Plans

Have your kids been fascinated with the black glue they see at the store but you have no idea what it's for? After surfing the web I learned that black glue is great for acting as a “resist” to keep paint separate in art projects. These art projects for kids show how easy it is to use black glue to create beautiful pictures.

We rounded up 14 black glue art projects that are super simple to make at home. You probably already have the items at home to get started now. There 3 projects with hearts, 3 with flowers, 3 of items found in nature, and 5 ocean related pictures to make.

Art projects are a great way to end any Science lesson plan, by the way!

Black Glue Art Hearts

This art lesson is a simple way to explore Cubism art. It's also a super easy art project that would make a great present for Valentines Day. Download the heart printable then read the instructions on how to make this project at RedTedArt.

It's easy to make. Outline the heart and lines with the black glue. After it dries thoroughly you can paint the individual blocks.

Black Glue Mandala Art Project

A mandala, "circle" in Sanskrit", symbolizes the idea that life is never ending and everything is connected. Beyond that, they are beautiful combination of colors and shapes within a circle.

You get two free mandala patterns AND a plain circle pattern. That way you can make your own mandala pattern. Just be sure to aim for symmetry. What's on one side has to be on the other side, too.

Black Glue Flower Art Projects

This first black glue flower project reminds me of "Beauty and the Beast". The Georgia O'Keefe flower project is a great way to introduce your children to a famous female artist. She's actually my very favorite of all the artists! The sunflower helps children to see that there are many parts to the plant where sunflower seeds come from.

I really like how they show to layer wet on wet watercolor paint. The layering shows highlights and shadows in the petals.

Before getting into painting, here you learn more about this revolutionary artist. Georgia O'Keefe did a whole flower series. If you enjoy making this flower go HERE to find more free Georgia O'Keefe coloring pages to trace. There are quite a lot! A testament to the staying power of her talent.

Black Glue Sunflower Art

Sunflowers are so bright and happy. Their seeds are a great source of Vitamin E. They are also high in protein and rich in healthy fats, as well as antioxidants. This black glue art project would be a great go-along to learning all about sunflowers with this lesson plan.

Black Glue Nature Art Projects

Ending any Science lesson plan with an art project was a must in our homeschool. These nature art projects are great for lessons about weather, or wildlife, or even space. I think the subject of Outer Space with black glue is an absolute must. Don't you?

First, purchase the template. Then start the project by outlining the diamond shape and lines. Be sure to make the kite tails, too!

What a happy little owl. He would be a very easy project for a young child to make.

3

Gorgeous Black Glue Galaxy Craft

This black glue art project looks so cool! If you had glow in the dark paint it would be even more awesome! Make a bunch of these, fix them to your child's bedroom ceiling, and they have a great nightlight.

Black Glue Ocean Art Projects

How does that song go? "Under the sea, Darling it's better, Down where it's wetter, Take it from meeee!" I've been humming that ever since I found these black glue art projects of things you would find in the ocean.

Stunning Seahorse Black Glue Craft

These seahorses are too cute. They also show that you can try different colors in each block.

2

Rainbow Fish Craft With Free Template

Make your own Rainbow Fish after reading the beloved story! They suggest using glitter to make the scales. But I think Crayola's glitter glue pens OR glitter markers would work better. That way you don't get shiny sparkly stuff all over the house. I'm still wiping glitter off the floor from a project a few years ago!

3

Black Glue Jellyfish Art

Trying to teach your child hand-eye coordination? Try this jellyfish project. Holding the bottle of black glue while wiggling it down the page would help teach that skill. It won't matter if your child messes up, either. Jellyfish legs are all over the place anyway, right?

4

Turtle Black Glue Resist Art

Hello, Mr. Turtle. Again, this is EXTREMELY simple for a young child yet they will feel proud of their accomplishment. Because this little guy is pretty fun.

5

Black Glue Watercolor Seashells – The Pinterested Parent

Let's add some texture to our waterpaint and black glue! Sprinkle salt on the wet paint. When it dries it gives the painting an ocean feel. (And sand is way easier to clean up than glitter.)

A Black Glue Art Project for Older Children

This Decalcomania technique uses black paper and black glue to create a random texture that resembles spindly tree branches, feathery foliage, or frost patterns. Enhanced with metallic liquid watercolor paints, these prints create moody, luminous landscapes or subtly textured abstracts that glow from within.

Watch the video. Then download the free printable lesson plan from Dick Blick.

How do you make black glue?

Black glue is a mixture of regular white glue with black paint or ink. The trick is to mix it very well. Then continue to mix often as you use it. Follow the black glue recipe and instructions over at KitchenTableClassroom.

Of course, you could always buy it, too.

CONCLUSION

Now the next time you walk past the art supplies and your child really, really wants a bottle of glue that's black you will know exactly what to do with it!
